This guide is meant to give you a synopsis of current, potential grant opportunities available to our business and Industry partners, through Customized Training Solutions, MN North College and partner agencies. Talent Development Program
Agency: JET
Purpose: The Talent Development Program (TDP) is business-driven funding assistance for qualifying Minnesota businesses to provide skills training to full-time permanent employees. TDP offsets the employer costs to train and upgrade the skills of current workers. Eligible businesses must articulate that by receiving funding assistance through the program their business will not only improve the skills of their workforce but also improve their business processes and competitiveness and/or avert a layoff. (Note: only one application accepted per fiscal year; it may contain multiple trainings).
Pipeline / Dual Training Grant
Agency: DOL
Purpose: To create pathways of advancement for incumbent workers to move up into higher paying positions in specific occupations currently in demand.
Maximum: $6,000/employee for up to 4 years; Total of $150,000/organization/year for 4 years.
Eligibility Requirements: Incumbent worker. Must include on-the-job-training as part of the program; competency –based.

DEED Grants
Purpose: To create mutually beneficial outcomes for business and industry to train their workers; for Higher Education and Customized Training to create new and innovative programs, obtain specific equipment and/or technology, and expand their offerings and expertise. a. Partnership Program provides grants of up to $400,000 to educational institutions that partner with businesses to develop training for new and existing employees of those entities throughout the state.
b. Pathways Program provides grants of up to $400,000 to educational institutions or nonprofit organizations that partner with businesses to provide training, new jobs and career paths for people with low incomes. Projects must include at least one participating business and an accredited Minnesota educational institution or training provider.
c. Job Incentive Training Program provides grants of up to $200,000 to new or expanding businesses located in Greater Minnesota. These grants go directly to the businesses for the purpose of training workers as quickly and efficiently as possible.
d. Low Income Worker Training Program provides grants of up to $200,000 to public, private or nonprofit entities to help low-income people gain new skills necessary to move up the career ladder to higher-paying jobs and greater economic self-sufficiency.
e. Automation Training Incentive Program (ATIP) provides grants of up to $35,000 to existing businesses for the express purpose of training incumbent workers as quickly and effectively as possible on new automation technology. The program is available to existing businesses located in Greater Minnesota that are investing in new automation technology at the project location.
f. Pathways to Prosperity (P2P) Competitive Grant programs are programs and services designed to provide workforce development and training opportunities to economically disadvantaged adults that will help them develop increased career awareness; acquire basic skills education; participate in skills-training programs resulting in certificates and credentials; and place participants into employment in high growth, high demand industries with long-term career growth and opportunity.
Local Partnership Grant
Agency: Minnesota State
Purpose: Provide opportunities for training incumbent workers in high demand areas, including welding and machining and more.
Maximum: Up to $5,000/organization

Workforce Solutions for the Trades III
Agency: IRRR
Purpose: To train incumbent workers in skills gap areas; upskilling the workforce
Maximum: Up to $10,000 per organization

OJT Grant
Agency: CareerForce/JET
Purpose: There are financial incentives for employers who provide on-the-job training for people who recently lost a job through no fault of their own. On-the-job training in this context refers to a contractual agreement between the local workforce development agency and an employer. The employer agrees to employ and train the participant, and the workforce development agency agrees to reimburse a portion of the participant’s wages (50 percent or more, depending on various criteria).

Registered Apprenticeship Grant
Agency: DEED/DOL
Purpose: Create state-approved registered apprenticeship programs per state guidelines. In Minnesota, employers in certain high-demand sectors can apply for a Minnesota Registered Apprenticeship Grant to help them create or expand registered apprenticeship programs. These grants are available for businesses in advanced manufacturing, agriculture, health care, information technology and transportation. Approved employers will receive funds to offset their costs related to program development, related instruction and supplies. MAI is a partnership between the Minnesota Department of Employment (DEED) and the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) and is funded through a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The Department of Labor and Industry's Youth Skills Training Program
Agency: DOL
Purpose: Supports the development and implementation of experiential learning opportunities for students 16 and older. These locally developed programs are implemented in cooperation with employers and schools. Includes both classroom and paid part-time employment.
Emergency Services/Frontline Worker Grant II
Agency: IRRR
Purpose: The Emergency Services / Frontline Worker Grant II targets both individuals and organizations in the Emergency Services area, as well as providing related trainings to individuals that work cooperatively with healthcare. Additionally, this grant includes funding for Active Shooter training. This grant helps provide departments and services some relief on training costs allowing them to provide additional training and resources to their labor force.

Tribal Nation Customized Training Grant
Purpose: To provide training to the four sovereign tribal nations located within the Taconite Assistance Area: Fond Du Lac, Bois Forte, Grand Portage, and Leech Lake. This grant would be a targeted approach to provide more upskilling to members of our tribal nations.
